Uniquely straddling the doctrines of Graffiti, Post Modernism and Arte Povera,
Gabriel Dubois’ practice is born out of an innate desire to express and inscribe his heterogeneous life experiences through the formal language of abstraction.
A penchant curiosity for foreign affiliations has lead to international artistic endeavours, promoting a visual practice informed by multiple imprints, perspectives and traditions.
Dubois operates primarily as an abstract painter, employing hard-edge & gestural components within an absorbing playing-field of deft iconography. Utilizing sign painting mechanisms to create a contemporary visual dialect through a recognizable artistic authorship, Gabriel attempts to convey the intricacies of his own personal geography.
Site-specific works, structural installations, sculptures and collage based imagery act as formal counterpoints to his painted compositions.
